Government & Justice

Working with governments, whether federal, provincial or municipal, requires a unique understanding of the responsibility to deliver public projects that demonstrate value for money, as well as meet the needs of multiple stakeholders and address the challenges of security, urbanisation and public safety.

Our strong regional presence and in-depth knowledge of local social, political and economic conditions enable us to tailor our services to the specific needs of clients in delivering administrative buildings, infrastructure projects and secure facilities. Designing with a holistic approach, WSP understands the factors that make government projects unique:

Finance – Our work for the government sector spans our entire range of capabilities and we offer significant expertise in design-bid-build to complex alternative financing such as public-private partnership (P3) programs in the road, transit, education, health and defense sectors.

Security – Whether we are working on secure facilities like police stations and correctional facilities, or working on administrative complexes and data centres, we understand the need to design security that encompasses physical, digital and physical. Drawing on our expertise in structural, mechanical, electrical, information management, IT, as well as operational and organizational programs, we identify and reduce risks with industry-accepted principles and best practices.

Cultural heritage resources – WSP has over 50 years of experience working with archaeology, built heritage and cultural heritage landscapes; identifying, mitigating developmental impacts and conserving heritage resources across Canada. We assist our clients in making informed decisions for the future of their built and natural landscapes while keeping its character intact, empowering them as custodians who connect heritage with the future. As partners in the process, we help clients understand and navigate the legislation and assessment process, so they are able to understand early in the project what is required, instead of making changes at crucial periods of design and construction.

Multiple stages and stakeholders – Working as prime consultants, project managers, designers, commissioning consultants, restoration and renovation engineers, we are able to deliver at all stages of the project life cycle.  WSP has provided engineering services for government properties across Canada as well as in China, the Middle East, Bermuda and the United States. We have designed, evaluated and restored public buildings of every age and function, including correctional facilities and courthouses, government halls and offices, police stations and customs facilities. We work closely with clients and all stakeholders to deliver better public infrastructure and buildings which make the most of public funds and provide the best long-term outcome for the end-user.
