With a 95% efficiency rate in converting waterpower into electricity, this renewable source is also a reliable and essential component for connecting wind and solar energy to the electricity grid.

WSP has developed a solid expertise in the area of hydroelectric facility design. Whether working on a newer facility or inspecting and rehabilitating existing facilities, our multidisciplinary team approaches each project with a customer-focused and constructive approach while employing the latest tools to find the most appropriate solutions.

Our key services include:

  • Prefeasibility and feasibility studies; environmental and social assessments; permits and authorizations; specialized studies (i.e. ice dynamics, sediment transport, etc.); inspection and condition assessment of existing hydropower generation stations;
  • Due diligence review as an independent consulting engineer to potential lenders or buyers; technical support in the development of hydropower projects; commissioning and operational support;
  • Energy potential assessments; energy modelling; 1D, 2D and 3D hydraulic modelling; and
  • Detailed engineering for construction; project management; management and preparation of call for tender documents for the selection of production and/or construction equipment; EPCM services and engineering support for EPC contracts; services during construction.

The expertise of our engineers and technical teams are as follows:

  • Hydraulic and hydrological engineering; and hydraulic structures design;
  • Construction engineering;
  • Geotechnical and geological assessment and investigations;
  • Hydromechanical, and auxiliary mechanical  equipment and systems  for hydropower plants; and
