Stockholm Skyview

A rail system that allows visitors to scale the sides of the world’s largest spherical building.

Our approach

Opened in 1989, the Ericsson Globe was originally designed by WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff and, with a diameter of 110 m, is the largest spherical building in the world.

Now WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff has revisited its project to add two sets of rails on which glass gondolas climb up and over the giant sphere to a height of 130m above sea level, giving unrivalled views of Stockholm.

WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff’s challenge was to connect the gondola rail to a new steel construction hanging under the spherical shell. This only proved possible with the use of the 3D BIM programme Tekla Structures.
