The Shanghai Tower is a new landmark building in the city’s financial quarter, setting a new benchmark in green building design and intelligent building systems.
Designed by Gensler Architects, the tower has a unique twisting core and is 632 m tall, which makes it the highest building in China. Its 128 floors include office and retail space, conference centres, entertainment and cultural facilities, and a luxury hotel.
WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff was the owner’s engineer for all mechanical, electrical, plumbing and vertical transportation systems, and also played a significant role in obtaining LEED Certification.
Our recommendations included numerous innovative design alternatives, such as the vertical transportation system redesign, which improved efficiency of elevator and escalator systems and increased the amount of commercial space available in the tower. We also supported the integration of green technology including energy-generating wind turbines, solar panels, and green building service systems.
