Ikea’s Ground Breaking Ceremony In Korea (Goyang)

IKEA recently held a ground breaking ceremony for their new store in Goyang, South Korea. This is IKEA’s second store in South Korea and is expected to be completed at the end of 2017. The approximately $225 million project includes 164,000 sq.m of space spread out over three underground and four above-ground levels.

IKEA first launched its business operations in South Korea when they opened their store in Gwangmyeong and have plans to further expand their operations in South Korea.

WSP | Parsons Brinkerhoff provided construction management and other related engineering services, for IKEA’s first store in Gwangmyeong. Our services on this initial project resulted in IKEA commissioning us for their second store, currently under construction, in Goyang.

Our project team, along with the WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff’s managing director in Korea, Kevin Sang-Ook Park, participated in the ground breaking ceremony for the IKEA Goyang store on 24 May. The event drew significant interest as it marked one of the highest profile projects in the satellite city of Goyang situated in the northwest of Seoul.
