Bram Fischer International Airport Hospital, Bloemfontein

The Bram Fischer International Airport Hospital is located in Bloemfontein, a city in the Free State province of South Africa. This new health facility will accommodate residents of Free State, a land-locked province in the centre of South Africa. The health facility will be located near the Bram Fischer International Airport, next to the N8 heading to Botshabelo and Thaba Nchu.

The hospital is owned by Busamed, one of South Africa’s first black-owned healthcare groups. To address the demand for medical facilities in the country, the group secured ZAR 1 billion to build four new private hospitals in the Western Cape, Free State and Gauteng. Our client appointed us to provide civil, structural and building services for all four new private hospitals. The private hospitals are being developed in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Harrismith and Bloemfontein.

The hospital is a single storey development with 150 beds and offers general, medical, surgical, day and paediatric wards, X-ray, theatres, high-care, maternity and neonatal ICU wards.

The building is a single storey, conventionally reinforced concrete frame hospital, with reinforced concrete columns founded on pad footings. Brickwork is founded on strip footings. The structural steel roof is supported over the reinforced concrete columns.

The hospital’s practice comprises general theatre and pathology laboratory.

The X-ray department comprises sonar, mammogram, bone and computed tomography (CT) room.
