Medupi Power Project – South Africa

WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff has been given a role by Eskom Holdings Limited to provide general engineering and project management support to utility’s challenging generation expansion programme. The company will play a major role in Medupi through to its commercial operation in 2014 and beyond.



Eskom’s Medupi Power Station will be one of the biggest single power projects in the world comprising 6 x 800 MW, supercritical, dry-cooled, coal-fired generating units. This mega project will be built on a multi-contract basis, ensuring support to the local economy in South Africa.

Our services / approach

We are providing Eskom with Owner Engineer Services including full management for the entire project. The main plant long-lead item tenders (the boiler and turbine generator package) have been evaluated and contracts awarded.
WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff are supplying the full project management team, engineering coordination and contract management for 38 contracts making up the power station construction project.
Other responsibilities include support for concept definition, specification development, design, tender evaluation and contract engineering work, initial specification and project definition phases.
