Workshops in China heighten WSP staff awareness of global risk, ethics and compliance

Adam Hing, Global Risk, Ethics & Compliance Officer (Asia Pacific), WSP, recently conducted workshops across China in the Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Beijing and Shanghai offices.

The objectives of the Global Risk, Ethics & Compliance workshops are to help employees grasp why corruption and bribery risk is important to manage and understand the key risks and issues around the subjects of gifts, entertainment and hospitality, working with third parties, conflicts of interest and last but not least, confidentiality. The workshops also inform staff as to where further support and advice can be sought.

Workshops are held in China on a regular basis with participation from staff across the company spectrum including engineers, project managers and general management personnel. A workshop on crisis management was also conducted for the Asia team in Hong Kong.

Adam said, “These in-person training sessions augmented the recent on-line Code of Conduct training and provided our staff with the opportunity to interact and ask questions about some of the more complicated risks. I always enjoy visiting our different offices across Asia. The work we do in each location varies which in turn results in differing risks to our business. It is also a two way process because I learn a lot from our local teams too.”

“Face to face training for such important and complicated risks is key to ensuring we have a robust compliance program. I always include real life examples and scenarios which helps to simplify complex ethical and legal situations. I do not have to look far before I find examples of other businesses facing ethical and legal challenges.”

WSP strives to adopt best practices that allow us to preserve our well-earned reputation. Our professionalism, coupled with our reputation, hold the key to our maintenance of relationships of trust with our clients, shareholders, employees and other stakeholders. Integrity matters and our Code of Conduct demonstrates our dedication towards abiding by ethical principles in our business endeavors. It serves as a guidance and a framework for our actions when it comes to corporate obligations and business activities.
