MESSAGE FROM CANADIAN SUSTAINABILITY LEADERSHIP

2014 was another pivotal year for WSP, as we joined forces with Focus, a 1,800-employee Canadian engineering and geomatics firm. In October of the same year, Parsons Brinckerhoff also joined WSP, doubling the size of the company. As of December 31st, WSP counted about 31,700 employees in more than 500 offices, across 39 countries on 5 continents. By the end of 2014, our Canadian employee count reached 6,500 employees.

Both Focus and Parsons Brinckerhoff bring robust approaches to extra-financial reporting as well as a strong culture of wide-ranging sustainability initiatives. We are thrilled to share a commitment to bettering our built and natural environments in Canada and abroad.

Globally, WSP| Parsons Brinckerhoff reports on sustainability along Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guidelines. The Group’s global sustainability report, available here, discloses items such as greenhouse gases emissions, materiality assessment, membership in various organisations as well as corporate sustainability objectives. The present report focuses specifically on 2014 sustainability initiatives and progress in Canada1.

2014 was also the first year of implementing our 2014-2016 Action Plan: it brings us further into sustainability territory after the successful implementation of our 2011-2013 Action Plan. Following our consultations with our external and internal stakeholders, we will proceed to a review of the Action Plan in 2015 to better include some of their concerns and aspirations.

To reflect the need for concise and user-relevant information, we are proposing a new dynamic format for this year’s edition of the Canadian sustainability report. The various boxes highlight topics of interest, such as community events organised by our staff, progress against sustainability objectives, landmark sustainable projects and feedback from our stakeholders.

On behalf of the Canadian National Sustainable Development Committee, I would like to thank our staff for their continued efforts in raising the bar for sustainability at their workplace and in their communities.

Enjoy reading our report!
