Bridges & Civil Engineering Structures

Bridges are both iconic landmarks and vital transport lifelines for many of Canada’s cities. Ensuring that existing bridges remain operational, and introducing new ones to improve accessibility and promote economic development, presents an important challenge for infrastructure agencies.

Our bridge professionals have delivered over 500 bridges in the past five years; from movable bridges to restorations of historic structures. Our experts provide expertise in designing new structures, rehabilitating existing structures, inspections, asset management and construction supervision. Their expertise covers a wide range of bridge infrastructure in all types of environments (urban, local and rural); including simple span bridges, continuous span bridges, elevated bridges, flyovers, interchanges, underpasses, conventional and cable-stayed pedestrian bridges, culverts, as well as retaining walls, noise wall and overhead signs structures.

We possess the expertise in utilizing different materials ranging from the more conventional - reinforced or pre-stressed concrete and steel to historic structures in wood, stone and masonry - to innovative materials such as plastics. We have also played a role in studying and designing bow-string, cable-stayed and suspension bridges.

In Canada, many bridges are in need of maintenance and rehabilitation. Our experts have skillsets for carrying out non-destructive testing in order to determine how best to rehabilitate existing structures in a cost-effective way.
