Earl Bales Park Storm Water Management Facility

  • WSP designed and oversaw construction of a storm water management facility and water supply system at Earl Bales Park.
  • Objective was to restore damaged ravines and improve the quality of storm water discharged into the West Don River.
  • The design takes advantage of synergies between the availability of suitable space for a 3-ha storm water management facility in the river valley, available capacity in a conveniently located trunk storm sewer, the need for alternative water supplies for the Don Valley Golf Course irrigation and adjacent ski hill snowmaking, as well as a desire for improvements to the design of the golf course layout.
  • Irrigation works and snowmaking included a new pumping station, forcemains, and sewers installed for the new water source. Flow monitoring and water quality sampling and all inlets and outlets were installed and collected through a local SCADA system that transmits the information to the City database for review and analysis.
