Hurontario / Main Street Corridor Community Improvement Study

A critical city-building initiative for Brampton and Mississauga.

  • WSP, as part of a multidisciplinary project team, developed a comprehensive master plan and Community Improvement Plan for Hurontario / Main Street between Port Credit in Mississauga and downtown Brampton.
  • This involved examining how a higher-order transit system, along with supportive land uses and urban design, can help to achieve the cities’ strategic goals, provincial growth targets, and Metrolinx’s vision of an integrated transportation network.
  • WSP prepared detailed zoning by-law performance standards to implement the vision for an active, pedestrian-oriented, and mixed-use corridor.
  • The study was recognized with on a Canadian Institute of Planners Award for Planning Excellence in Transportation and Infrastructure, 2011.
  • Public consultation and communication initiatives included a project website, a Facebook page, regular newsletters, a public information centre, community workshops, and a stakeholder visioning symposium.
