North-South Light LRT – Ottawa

Study to address existing and future transportation demand between the rapidly growing communities in the Riverside south and downtown Ottawa.

  • Carried out both an Ontario Individual Environmental Assessment (EA) study and a Federal (CEEA) study of the North-South (LRT) Corridor on a fast-track basis.
  • Project included 31 kilometers of twin-track, electrically powered LRT with a projected ridership of 60,000 to 70,000 riders per week day by 2021.
  • Downtown, the LRT would run on exclusive transit lanes on existing streets, and in the suburbs on an exclusive right-of-way between LeBreton Flats and Barrhaven Town Centre.
  • Project also included a two kilometer link to Ottawa International Airport, 34 stations, four new park-and-ride lots, a maintenance yard, and provision for integration of bus transit services.
