Port Darlington WPCP Phase II Expansion


WSP was retained by the Region of Durham to provide project management and engineering services for the preliminary and detailed design, tender, contract administration and construction services for the Port Darlington WPCP Phase II Expansion project. The Phase II Expansion increased the plant’s average day flow capacity of 13.6 MLD to 27.3 MLD.

Construction of the Phase II expansion is anticipated to be completed in March, 2017.

Key Achievements/Features

  • New headworks facility for screening and grit removal
  • New primary and secondary treatment trains and complete retrofitting of the existing plant
  • New fine bubble aeration system with high speed centrifugal blowers
  • New disinfection facility
  • New primary digester tank and retrofitting of the existing digester facility
  • New SCADA system, substation, standby diesel generator system, HVAC system and upgrades to plant water distribution system.
