Rideau Canal Multi-Use Crossing Study

The multi-use bridge provides an important active transportation connection and reduces automobile commuting volume.

Overall project objective was to define a signature bridge over the heritage setting of the Rideau Canal that provides a functional, multi-use connection in midtown Ottawa.

  • WSP developed a plan for improving pedestrian and cycling linkages over the Rideau Canal World Heritage site between urban neighbourhoods in the City of Ottawa.
  • The plan was designed to foster healthy communities by promoting active transportation through enhanced pedestrian and cycling connectivity, and promote environmental health through decreased automobile use.
  • Using both traditional and online media tools, WSP provided communications and public consultation services that were integral to the success of this project.
