    Engineering Excellence, Consulting Engineers of Ontario

    WSP was the prime consultant for the recently opened New Quito International Airport (NQIA) in Ecuador, S.A., which is being developed in phases over a 30+ year concession period. WSP was responsible for all of the engineering design for the Phase One development with the exception of the architectural and geotechnical design. The team overcame many unique challenges that were presented by the project site, which is a 1,400-hectare plateau sitting 350 m above rivers that surround it on three sides, and is located on the equator, within the Andes Mountains, in one of the most seismically active areas in the world.

    ACEC-BC Award of Excellence in Transportation and Bridges & Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Engineering Excellence

    The $2.5B, 37-km Port Mann / Highway 1 Improvement Project is a major component of the Province of British Columbia’s Gateway Program, established to address growing regional congestion, expanding populations, and multi-modal connectivity. WSP, as part of joint venture H5M with Hatch Mott MacDonald, led the design for the project’s $1.5B onshore works over an aggressive, five-year, fast-track design and construction period. The Port Mann / Highway 1 project also received the Deputy Minister’s Award for Design and Contract Preparation – Roads, recognizing the excellence of consulting engineers partnering with the ministry to improve B.C.’s transportation infrastructure.

    ACEC-BC Awards of Engineering Excellence – Award of Merit in Buildings

    Surrey Memorial Hospital required expansion and redevelopment to meet the needs of a quickly growing population. As British Columbia’s largest healthcare project, the 57,394m2, eight-storey critical care tower expansion will provide a world-class facility to deliver significant improvements to patient care in Surrey. The WSP team completed a sustainability design approach for environmental, economic, and social sustainability to attain LEED Gold.

    WSP provided technical and financial management for the multidisciplinary team of engineers, architects, vendors, and contractors engaged in the state-of-the-art improvements on the Edmonton International Airport (EIA) Expansion project. A key component of the expansion was the successful implementation of improvements within a live operating airport environment.
