WSP delivers surveying and mapping solutions for the entire project lifecycle with speed and certainty. Our crews are first on the ground supporting some of the largest projects in Canada. Regardless of the project size or location, we are there, from field to finish.

As spring sets in across Canada

April 10, 2015

The climate and intensity of Canada’s four distinct seasons vary across the country. The WSP Geomatics team is busy adapting to the changing climate this time of the year. The following are just a few examples.

Leveling can be a tricky task this time of the year, when the ground thaws over the course of the day. For best results, the crew has to work efficiently: checking the gear, planning the loop, identifying and mitigating hazards, and then finally running the loop itself. Good planning leads to tight closures. (Photo credit: Van Esch)

ATVs and UTVs are coming back out for the season. This Canada Safety Council-endorsed UTV training course will help prepare WSP staff for their work in the field. These types of training courses are a critical part of being ready and alert on the job. (Photo credit: Van Esch)

In Northeast British Columbia, WSP Geomatics crews have worked on over a thousand kilometres of small-diameter gathering, transmission and distribution projects, as well as large-diameter major projects across Canada. The Geomatics team is supported by a Geographic Information Systems team that enhances the route selection process using 3D mapping tools and remotely sensed data. It also collaborates with an engineering team that designs right-of-way grade and ditch-bottom, as well as a data management team that provides spatially enabled web viewing of all aspects of their pipe. Well, it is not quite spring in Atlantic Canada. The Geomatics survey crew works in deep snow in northern New Brunswick. (Photo credit: S. Flanagan’s Atlantic Canada Geomatics team)
