Toronto Urban Design Award of Excellence for Queens Quay

Queens Quay Boulevard has recently received a Toronto Urban Design Award of Excellence in the category Large Spaces and/or Neighbourhood Designs. WSP is proud to have provided Site Engineering and Structural Engineering services on this iconic waterfront boulevard.

A world-class waterfront

Queens Quay Boulevard is a redevelopment sub-project of the 2006 award-winning Toronto Central Waterfront Master Plan. The redesign of the quay was guided by sustainable transportation priorities which included reduction of vehicular traffic, introduction of a Light Rail Transit Corridor, widening pedestrian sidewalks, and planting of 240 new trees along the boulevard.

The boulevard went from an unstimulating transportation route to a stunning urban waterfront that connects multiple waterfront destinations in the city.

About the Toronto Urban Design Awards

The biennal awards program, organized by the City of Toronto, acknowledges the significant contribution that architects, landscape architects, urban designers, artists, design students, and the builders make to the look and livability of the city. The competition offers the opportunity to receive city-wide recognition from a jury of urban visionaries.
