WSP’s Rail Systems Engineering Director Honoured with Mass Transit’s Top 40 Under 40: Sole Canadian on North America-wide list

Thornhill-based Jennifer Verellen, Director of Rail Systems Engineering in Canada, has been named a Top 40 Under 40 professional by Mass Transit, a leading U.S.-based B2B magazine serving the public transportation industry.


Mass Transit’s Top 40 Under 40 list honours transit professionals who have made notable contributions to the public transit industry. Nominated by their peers, award winners are evaluated on a variety of criteria, including industry involvement, personal achievement in their position and the innovation they deliver to the field.

Jennifer Verellen has more than 14 years of leadership in technical systems engineering and has played a prominent role in the development of WSP’s Rail Systems Engineering Team, where she currently leads over 60 full-time engineers and specialists.  A graduate from the University of Windsor, Ontario where she earned a Bachelor of Applied Science degree (Honours), Jennifer’s international project experience includes the Dubai Metro Project, the Istanbul Metro Kadikoy-Kartal Line, the Kuala Lumpur Kelana Jaya Line and Singapore’s North-South, East-West Lines and Tuas West Extension. 

In Canada, she has championed WSP’s involvement in the Metrolinx Union Station Rail Corridor Signalling System Project, the Metrolinx GO Transit Train Control Systems Project and the Edmonton LRT NW Extension Project.  In addition, her team has advanced the Toronto Transit Commission’s Scarborough Subway Extensions Systems Projects and the Toronto Transit Commission’s LRT Design Standards.
