Al Arouba Road

Al Arouba Road is a strategic road in Sharjah and connects the emirates of Sharjah and Ajman. This road acts as the main artery leading to many major and historic destinations in Sharjah.

Bullet Client: Directorate of Public Works

Due to the continuous growth of Sharjah, the existing road fails to cater to the high traffic volumes which cause congestions and delays. A comprehensive traffic study was carried out by WSP in 2011 to assess the current and future traffic conditions.

In May 2013, we were commissioned by the Directorate of Public Works (DPW) Sharjah to prepare the preliminary and detailed design for the 2.5km section including two water crossing bridges, upgrade of Khaledia and Jubail interchanges, Jubail Market car park.

The highway upgrade proposals were evaluated at a strategic and local level using a variety of modelling software to ensure proposals operated satisfactorily from a network perspective. Temporary traffic arrangements were proposed to ensure that traffic movements were not eliminated during the upgrade.
