Fujeij Windfarm

WSP undertook the preparation of a high level Environmental Assessment for the Fujeij Wind farm to be located to the north of the small town of Shawbak. The project represents the first major wind farm development in Jordan.

The EA was undertaken to World Bank standards and relevant World Bank and International Finance Corporation (IFC) guidance notes and safeguards. It was prepared within 1 month to meet the tight timeframe required as part of the overall project programme.

Various other documents were provided including construction and operational Environmental Management Plans and a Resettlement Policy Framework (RPF) document.

The project included not only identification of environmental issues affecting the proposed wind farm but also the establishment of environmental criteria that should be considered during the development of any future wind projects in Jordan.Recommendations were also made on legislative policy reinforcement and any requirements for the relevant legislators.
