Kuwait First Ring Road

The First Ring Road was planned in the early 1980’s as a vital route to serve the downtown Kuwait City area. The Southern Section of the First Ring Road was completed about a decade ago and the northern section is scheduled to be completed in the next 6 years.

Bullet Client: Kuwait Ministry of Public Works

The Kuwait Ministry of Public Works (MPW) commissioned WSP to  redesign the northern section of the First Ring Road and associated roads to relieve traffic congestion and  provide easy access to the downtown area, taking into account changes in land-use, new traffic patterns, extended design year and state of the art technologies.

WSP's role is divided into two major stages: concept design and preparation of construction documents. As part of concept design, a comprehensive traffic study, environmental assessment, assessment of existing underground utilities, pedestrian access study and review of public transport were undertaken.
