Linking energy transmission systems increases security of supply, reduces the cost of electricity and boosts trade.

As the UK loses coal and old nuclear power stations, the economic case for the use of interconnectors has never been stronger or more compelling. Although renewable power is predictable, it cannot be considered as base load and requires a level of back-up.

Interconnectors are an excellent way of bringing lower-cost energy from Europe to the UK. We have world-class technical and engineering teams that can deliver the cost-effective interconnector projects likely to be required by the UK electricity supply industry.

We have an extensive track record on successful interconnector projects, and we engineer HVAC and HVDC transmission interconnectors across Europe, Africa and Asia. We’re capable of handling schemes in the 2GW range with direct-current voltages of 320V and up to 500kV and our expertise includes the connection of offshore wind farms.
