We supported Novozymes in expanding the capacity of one of its manufacturing facilities, providing services from concept design to construction management.
The Novozymes Enzyme Production Facility manufactures a range of enzymes utilising biotechnological processes. The enzymes are used in a range of applications from household products and detergents to food and beverages.
Novozymes engaged us in early 2012 to deliver a concept design for the expansion and upgrade of the decanter line in Building AC at Kalundborg, and we were subsequently awarded the basic design.
We deployed a focused taskforce to Denmark to fully understand the scope and intricacies of the existing facility. This integrated approach led to the successful delivery of the basic design, followed by the detailed design and procurement phases. We went on to provide management services for the construction, installation and testing phases of the project.
Key challenges for our team included establishing a methodology which would not disrupt product manufacture, and changing the process lines from using centrifuges to decanters. Phasing and logistics planning were crucial to overall success, as the project included alterations to the existing building, the integration of new process equipment, and modifications to the existing systems.
