Opus to help in leading the design of RNLI Lifeboat Stations

02 February 2018 - Opus has been appointed to a new framework with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, as one of the lead consultants in a programme reaching 120 stations across the UK.

Opus will design stations to house new start of the art lifeboats for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution in a programme reaching 120 stations across the UK, to accommodate the new Shannon-class lifeboat.

The Shannon-class lifeboats are state of the art vessels that are designed to be launched and recovered from a beach, decreasing response time during emergency call outs.

Expected to be worth around £2.5m in fees, the teams will design new stations, as well as make alterations to existing buildings that need to be modified to house the new lifeboats.

Brian Hillman, Fareham Business Director and Technical Director at Opus, said: "We are thrilled to be able to continue to support the RNLI and this commission represents over 10 years of collaboration. We've recently finished their programme of upgrades for the Tamar-class lifeboat and we are now looking forward to turning our attention to the Shannon-class vessel”.

Having already received instruction for modification work at RNLI Seahouses Lifeboat Station in Northumberland, and with the green light for a new build at Pwllheli on the Llŷn Peninsula in Wales, it’s all hands on deck' for the Fareham team.

Opus has recently been acquired by leading engineering professional services firm, WSP.
