WSP celebrates success with Bournemouth and Poole Borough Councils third term contract win

29 November – WSP has been appointed to provide engineering consultancy services, with a focus on highways and transport services, for both the Bournemouth and Poole Borough Councils in a contract worth up to £32 million over the next nine years.

A team of Bournemouth, Southampton and Basingstoke-based experts - 30 of which are currently co-located in both the Bournemouth and Poole Borough Councils - will provide a range of engineering consultancy services including civil engineering design and project management, coast protection, passenger transport, transport planning, and traffic and parking management.

WSP has been working with the Bournemouth and Poole Borough Councils for the past 11 years in a highly successful tripartite partnership delivering improvement to the local community. This included the design of improvements to Bournemouth’s main train and coach station in order to make it a more accessible and user friendly interchange, and the design of the award winning Harbour Reach footbridge improving links between residential development and local open space.

Richard Carpenter, Bournemouth-based Commission Director, said: “We’re very pleased to be awarded this very important service delivery contract. We’ve been working with the Bournemouth and Poole Borough Councils since 2006 and we look forward to building on the success of our collaborative partnership with the Councils to deliver high quality technical services that will bring significant social value to the local area.”

Larry Austin, Service Director for Environment at Bournemouth Council said: “The appointment of WSP as a strategic partner to deliver engineering professional services for both Bournemouth Council and Borough of Poole comes at a critical time for both authorities in light of ongoing organisational changes.

“Delivery of our various engineering led services and functions, together with the key projects within the Bournemouth and Poole conurbation, can now be approached with the continued high level of certainty and quality that the elected members, businesses and residents expect.”
