WSP emphasises employee wellbeing with new senior hire

02 August – Chris Hanson-Moring joins the health and safety team at WSP as health and wellbeing manager, based in Tewkesbury. This latest appointment forms part of the consultancy’s commitment to further improve employee wellness and productivity.

With more than 17 years in the sector, Chris joins from Healthcare RM where he helped secure a multi-million pound contract by identifying the underlying personal and occupational risk factors that cause ill-health and injury.

As part of his new role, Chris will be responsible for reducing employee sickness levels, whether that’s from musculoskeletal issues or mental health, which account for 13 per cent of all employee absences in the contracting sector according to recent research in Construction News.

Lorne Clarke, UK head of health and safety at WSP said: ‘Ensuring that our colleagues go home healthy and safe at the end of each day to spend time with their family and friends is a priority for WSP, along with ensuring that those who work with us and who interact with our projects stay healthy and safe. It’s a great pleasure to welcome Chris to the business to lead on this aspect of our strategy, to encourage us to ‘view health like safety’, and to help build the wellbeing of our colleagues into our culture. This is simply the way we do things at WSP.’

Chris Hanson-Moring said: “I’m really excited to join a continuously growing and forward thinking company that identifies that health, safety and wellbeing is united in its approach to reduce and, where possible, eliminate ill-health and injury. I see huge opportunity in my role and look forward to meeting many colleagues and clients along my journey with WSP.”

WSP also welcomes the following to its 7,000 strong business:

Mike Woolgar has been appointed as water strategy director in the energy and industry team, based in London. Mike joins from Atkins where he was the water market director and latterly chairman, energy and water, in the infrastructure advisory business Atkins Acuity.
