City of Columbus

Our connected and automated vehicle (C/AV) consultants played a key role in Columbus, Ohio’s winning application for the federal Smart City Challenge. The city will receive up to $40 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation to supplement the $90 million raised from other private partners to carry out the Smart Columbus Program plan.

Using these resources, Columbus will work to reshape its infrastructure and become a fully-integrated city that harnesses the power and potential of data, technology and creativity to reimagine how people and goods move throughout their city. One of several strategies the city proposed was to deploy a fleet of electric self-driving shuttles to link the new CV-enabled bus rapid transit service with a burgeoning retail district, connecting more residents to jobs.

WSP USA will continue to provide Columbus with subject matter experts in C/AV planning and policy, and intelligent transportation systems development and deployment.
