Environmental & DOT HAZMAT Compliance Audit Program

WSP USA has delivered the third-party environmental and Department of Transportation (DOT) hazardous materials compliance audit program over the past 15 years for a Fortune 500 electronics and electronic equipment manufacturer with approximately 100 locations across the U.S. and Canada.  The manufacturing facilities are audited for compliance with federal, state, and local programs and regulations, as well as corporate environmental policies, procedures and standards.  WSP’s certified auditors work with our client’s environmental legal counsel to develop the facility-specific audit scope and prepare a detailed, narrative report for each facility audit.

Our client has operations in over 30 states where local, state, and federal requirements apply to their manufacturing operations.  It is our client’s policy to maintain full compliance with all applicable environmental laws and regulations in these various jurisdictions.  Due to the dynamic nature of their operations and the regulations, our client relies on a program of comprehensive, third-party compliance audits as one tool for evaluating compliance and managing its environmental risk. The audit program provides our client and its environmental legal counsel a detailed snapshot into regulatory compliance and management practices at locations across the U.S. and Canada.

WSP assesses regulatory compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, permits, and requirements. Our auditors provide recommendations and determine the source of non-compliant issues.  We also analyze trends and patterns between current and previous findings to determine the root cause of findings.  We provide recommendations and implement a process whereby corporate management system framework elements are seamlessly integrated into the existing program. At the conclusion of each audit, our auditor submits a summary of the facilities regulated activities and a detailed spread sheet containing audit findings, citations, and recommendations.

WSP’s goal is to be more thorough than an agency inspector so that our clients can proactively deal with compliance issues and avoid fines or penalties that could result from a compliance inspection. We continue to provide routine and surprise compliance audits on an annual basis.
