The Arena serves as the center piece of Forest City Ratner’s proposed Atlantic Yards mixed-use complex, a development at the forefront of Brooklyn’s revitalization.

The mechanical system is comprised of a 2,700-ton electric chiller plant and a 27,000MBH boiler plant. The air distribution system is from 4 major air handing units all connected by a continuous loop duct at the top of the arena bowl. A 100% air side economizer provides free cooling for the majority of the year with heat recovery systems to pre-heat and pre-cool the vast amount of outside air required for ventilation for the 18,000 occupants.

High efficiency gas fired domestic hot water heaters provide the domestic hot water for the entire arena including showers, kitchens and hydrotherapy equipment. The hot water is delivered via a centralized system to ensure no wait hot water to be available at the fixtures at all times. The electric service is a 10MVA Capacity consisting of (4) 2500KVA transformers configured as a second contingency arrangement and provided by Con Edison.

Significant features include:

  • Demand controlled ventilation

  • 1500kw  life safety generator
