Boston Landing - New Balance Headquarters

WSP USA is providing MEP engineering services for a 14 acre mixed use development containing office, retail, hotel, parking and a sports facility. The project is located adjacent to the New Balance Headquarters building in Allston, MA.

Bullet LEED Gold
Bullet Raised floors and chilled beams
Bullet Flexible office space
Bullet Exceeds 20% energy savings

The project consists of a variety of buildings on the site. These include a “new” New Balance headquarters office building and hotel with ground level retail and below grade parking, and three office buildings totaling 600,000 sf with associated parking and ground-floor retail. The open area terrace level will provide green space for employees, visitors and the community.

The headquarters building is seeking LEED Gold certification. New Balance requested the flexibility for their office space while maintaining an open feeling.  The design will incorporate raised floors with perimeter passive chilled beams.  The combination of the two systems will significantly increase air quantity and both lower air handling capacity and allow a savings in floor height. Further energy savings are projected from exterior sun shading. The hotel is being designed with a 4-pipe fan coil system.  All buildings are being designed to exceed 20% energy savings versus industry standards.

Electrical series switchgear and transformers have been incorporated into building niches with building switchgear located directly below, thus conserving valuable ground floor space. The headquarters will be provided with modular wiring system under the floor to maximize savings of the raised floor system and provide flexibility in the future.
