Cowboys Stadium Transportation Management Plan

Cowboys Stadium

WSP USA’s transportation management plan helped the new 80,000-seat Cowboys Stadium open in June 2009 without gridlock. Instead of directing traffic to the highway exit closest to the stadium, the system was modeled to distribute traffic through specified directions across 14 exits and the full network of arterial roadways and local streets. A sophisticated parking and traveler system provided customized directions to any of the stadium’s 20 parking lots from more than 400 Dallas area zip codes. Key to success was pre-selling parking spaces when event tickets were ordered.

According to exit polls, more than 72 percent of attendees at the June 2009 opening concert used the website. Local news reports indicated that many fans were pleased and surprised at how easy it was to park. Cowboys staff members report that all parking lots are filled at least 30 minutes before kick-off, indicating that patrons are able to reach their seats prior to the kick-off without being stuck in traffic.
