IBM Semi-Conductor

This state-of-the-art, $500 million, IBM semi-conductor project will be built in Ribeirao das Neves, in the metropolitan area of Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

The fab is expected to be completed and operational in 2014 and is the first semi-conductor facility in South America. The plant is intended to make chipsets and custom circuits. This chip factory is intended to be a foundry facility to support Brazilian and other fabless chip companies.

Per IBM, this factory will be "the most modern semi-conductors factory in the southern hemisphere." The facility will make chips for applications ranging from medical and industrial through to logistics and telecommunications.
