The project’s goal is to have a LEED® Silver certification. The building exterior is envisioned as a “translucent skin” to express the functions within. Zinc panels and a Kalwall curtain wall system are utilized in the façade.

WSP USA also designed the architectural and house lighting for this brand new three-story 33,000 sf building. Lighting was used to reinforce the idea that the feel of the interior lobby could be experienced beyond the glass curtain wall. To achieve this goal the interior concrete walls that form the enclosure around the auditorium, are uniformly washed with light. In the same lobby, a suspended steel stair is highlighted by grazing light down the filigreed stainless steel supports.

At the interior of the auditorium, the interplay of house and theatrical lighting allows for multiple lighting options that support the goals of SFJAZZ, a non-profit presenting arts organization dedicated to advancing the art of jazz through concerts, education programs, discussions, listening parties.
