EPA Issues Final Rule for Solvent-Contaminated Industrial Wipes

Regulatory Update: The EPA published a final rule revising the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) regulations to conditionally exclude solvent-contaminated wipes from hazardous waste regulations when businesses launder or dispose of them in the manner prescribed by EPA. The rule, initially proposed in 2003, is based on results of EPA’s 2008 final risk analysis that concluded that wipes contaminated with certain solvents do not pose a significant risk to human health or the environment when managed properly.
