Connected & Automated Vehicles: Driving the Driverless Agenda

WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff is working with state and local transportation agencies to bridge the gap between government policy and the advent of connected and automated vehicles (C/AV) and intelligent transportation systems (ITS).

The firm offers a wide range of services to support the planning, deployment and maintenance of C/AV and ITS projects across the U.S., including policy guidance for government agencies; the design and installation of roadside infrastructure; telecommunications expertise; data management, warehousing and integration; asset and configuration management; and planning considerations.

With the publication of the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Automated Vehicles Policy, a path has been set for innovation to take place. "It is inherently difficult for government to respond to the pace of technology development, and to strike a balance between protecting public safety and getting out of the way of innovation," says Scott Shogan, Connected/Automated Vehicle Market Leader at WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff.  "The NHTSA is providing much needed guidance that strikes that balance, allowing a clearer view for the industry to move forward, and for states to understand how to respond. This is a significant, exciting milestone towards this transportation revolution.”
