Paul Hobelmann to Lead New Structures Practice in the DC Metro Area for Our Buildings Sector

Paul Hobelmann has been appointed a vice president in the Arlington, Virginia office of WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff, a global engineering and professional services organization. He will lead the new structural engineering practice for the buildings sector in the Washington DC metro area.

 

ARLINGTON, VA — Paul Hobelmann has been appointed a vice president in the Arlington, Virginia office of WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff, a global engineering and professional services organization. He will lead the new structural engineering practice for the buildings sector in the Washington DC metro area.

With Paul’s appointment, WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff’s Arlington office adds structural engineering to its existing suite of comprehensive building engineering services, including: mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering; commissioning; high-performance sustainable design; lighting design; building technology engineering; and building enclosure engineering. Recent projects include the National Museum of African American History and Culture and the renovation of 2000 L Street, a 360,000 sf office building. The firm is renowned for its structural engineering of One World Trade Center and 432 Park Avenue in New York.

Mr. Hobelmann has over 35 years of experience both nationally and internationally in structural engineering design. He has served as lead structural engineer, assuming full design responsibility for multiple projects simultaneously. His expertise encompasses a diverse range of project types, including embassies, military facilities, laboratories, office, recreational, educational, government, parking, transportation, institutional, and other facilities. Prior to joining WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff, Mr. Hobelmann was an associate principle and manager in the Washington, DC office of an international engineering organization.

“Paul will be responsible for expanding our national structures practice to serve clients and projects in the capital district,” commented Jeffrey Smilow, national leader of the buildings structures practice. “Working closely with our teams in New York and Chicago, his technical skills and project experience make him ideally suited to oversee the delivery of structural services for our local clients.”

A licensed professional engineer in nine states and the District of Columbia, Mr. Hobelmann received MSCE and BSCE degrees from the University of Maryland, College Park. He has served in several committees of the American Society of Civil Engineers, including the committee responsible for the recent development of the Blast Protection for Buildings standard.  Mr. Hobelmann has also served with the American Concrete Institute, the American Institute of Steel Construction and the American Welding Society. He served as a past board member for the Delaware Valley Association of Structural Engineers and the Structural Engineers Association of Metropolitan Washington.
