This major expansion is in response to a growing pediatric population that is expected to top 1.5 million by 2030.
Our services included master planning and mechanical/electrical design services for the new Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Construction plans include a new patient tower bringing the total beds on campus from 235 to 377, as well as an ambulatory care building west of the existing campus, a new main entry boulevard, and an expanded parking garage. The 1.9 million sf expansion will encompass 45 acres.
As an extension of expansion and central plant work our firm has continued to complete renovation and energy projects directly for the Phoenix Children’s Hospital facility staff to correct pressure relationships in the existing hospital. We have worked with a test and balance agency to verify the air changes, cooling capacity and humidity control for the ICU unit, emergency department radiology and the four trauma bays. Activities included reviewing preliminary testand balance reports, making a due diligence ofexisting mechanical equipment for capabilities, and putting together corrective action reports or construction documents required to bring the areas back into compliance. The efforts have also resulted in reduced energy consumption by fixing chilled water control valves that were not responding to the BMS, running fans at lower speeds and repairing significant leakages in the duct work.
