Thermal Power

WSP is a leader in conventional thermal power generation. We have completed some of the world's largest thermal power stations, including coal and gas, and know how to successfully implement projects of all technologies and configurations to suit client's needs.

We support utility providers and financiers throughout the lifecycle of their energy projects, by understanding various technologies: cogeneration, combined heat and power (CHP) plants; combined cycle; waste-to-energy (WtE) treatments including anaerobic digestion, gasification and pyrolysis; heat-only boiler station (HOB). In the emerging market of power we have also been involved at the front end development of clean coal technologies, carbon capture and storage and providing strategic advice on various sustaining capital investment options in keeping ageing plant running more effectively.

We also help energy or industrial companies prepare for conversion and expansion of their combined heat and power and heating plants, including fuel switching (including bio-fuels), changing operational conditions and capacity expansion. We also identify and analyse the impact of future environmental requirements in accordance with the best available techniques.

WSP  understands that thermal capability is still an important part of the energy mix. Our capability and recent work is testament to that. Whether it is running more efficient ageing plant, to developing hybrid solutions that includes renewable components or waste to energy that is as much about efficient waste management as power generation – we are leading the way with our clients across Australia and New Zealand.
