Contaminated Land Assessment & Remediation

Whenever businesses acquire, develop, manage and divest land, all stakeholders experience potential uncertainty, financial risk and liability. At WSP, we help clients from a variety of industries and government mitigate and manage environmental risk as well as protect the value of their assets. We have built a strong track record in the successful completion of an extensive range of diverse and multi-disciplinary environmental investigation, remediation and management projects.

Phase I & II assessments of contaminated sites

Phase I environmental audits are a regular part of the 'due diligence' process in mergers, acquisitions and divestments. WSP  has worked on both sides of the transaction process, conducting audits for the purchaser (acquisition or merger) and the seller (divestment), also providing environmental compliance audits. Our team also has extensive experience in diverse and complex Phase II (detailed site investigations) for air, soil, sediment, surface and groundwater quality across the Asia-Pacific region.

Strategic advice in relation to contaminated & non-contaminated sites

Environmental Management Systems (EMS) are a key requirement for organisations to ensure appropriate environmental due diligence. Environmental Management Plans (EMP), Remediation Action Plans (RAP) and Site Management Plans (SMP) are developed both as part of a broader EMS or for project specific requirements. In developing an EMS, our experienced practitioners in site remediation ensure that the organisation’s objectives and operational needs are appropriately articulated and that EMPs, RAPs and SMPs are focused and efficient, rather than simply ‘planning documents’.

Design, management & remediation of contaminated sites

We conduct a thorough cost benefit analysis to explore remedial options. This takes into consideration the contaminants, the suitability of technology, appropriate timing, the implementation and ongoing costs of clean-up. We design and implement strategies for both in-situ and ex-situ remediation technologies using a range of approaches recognising the client’s commercial needs and focussing on risk-based corrective action.

Our team believes in a progressive and inclusive approach when working with Regulators and Auditors.
