2015 Young Achiever award keeps design engineer’s career on fast track

Last night, WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff Permanent Way Design Engineer, Mark Xerri won the 2015 Permanent Way Institute Young Achiever category at the Australasian Rail Industry Awards.

WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff Australia New Zealand Client Director for Rail, Mike Jenkins, said Mr Xerri had shown great ingenuity in his career.

‘His drive for excellence has seen him challenge existing light rail standards without detriment to reliability or safety.

‘This innovative thinking is particularly important now as the rail industry is focused on maximising existing assets and improving operational efficiency with minimal capital costs.

‘I am confident Mark will change the future of rail in Australia and we look forward to supporting him on his career journey,’ said Mr Jenkins.

Mr Xerri’s technical paper, ‘Extracting Operational Efficiency from an Existing Rail Asset’, was central to his award win. Mr Xerri’s paper provided a unique insight to the New South Wales light rail system.

His recommendations for optimising speed profiles could improve commuter comfort and journey time reliability across the network.

The Australasian Rail Industry Awards recognise technical excellence and innovation, with the intent to encourage professional development of emerging talent.  For more details see http://railindustryawards.com.au/

Mr Xerri will also be recognised at the Permanent Way Institute Annual Convention in October.
