Increasing availability and turnaround times for rolling stock

WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff Technical Rail Executive, Martin Donohoe will present the latest 'Lessons from Light Rail' at Rolling Stock Management 2015.

Donohoe will discuss European Light Rail rolling stock maintenance including strategies to increase asset availability and boost turnaround time in support of many of the current challenges facing this niche segment of the rail industry.

‘Light rail has become increasingly popular across Australia as a reliable and sustainable mode of transport.

‘Increased demand and tight budgets have necessitated out-of-the-box thinking for rolling stock maintenance.

‘Light rail in particular presents unique challenges – long operational hours, lean staffing and a limited spare’s inventory requires streamlined maintenance planning’ said Mr Donohoe.

Mr Donohoe’s strategy focuses on working directly with manufacturers to ensure that efficient preventative maintenance is undertaken and that procurement aligns with lifecycle costing.

Donohue is the Project Manager for the Newcastle Light Rail Technical Advisor Team and is supporting the NSW Government to deliver its initial work across the network.
