Tunnelling specialists from Westside Purple Line Extension share lessons learnt in Sydney

Next week in Sydney, two international tunnelling specialists will share insights from the Westside Purple Line Extension in Los Angeles County at the 13th Australian Tunnelling Conference.

WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff USA Senior Project Manager, Leo Carse, and Global Projects Director, Ashok Kothari will provide an overview of the 14.5 kilometre heavy haul rail extension.

WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff Director of Transport, Charlie Jewkes, explained this project faced several challenges, which resulted in useful learnings for the whole industry.

‘The project team had to bypass ancient fossils and construct three underground stations.

‘This global expertise is useful for clients here – it requires innovation in design to solve project challenges.

‘Clients are looking for designs that maximise existing materials and boast the latest technologies,’ said Mr Jewkes.

The annual conference is an opportunity for professionals to share the latest innovations across the tunnelling and civil construction industry.

Mr Carse and Mr Kothari will be available for interviews outside of their allocated speaking time (see below).
