The project will remove the nine dangerous and congested level crossings between Caulfield and Dandenong by elevating sections of the Cranbourne-Pakenham line and transforming Melbourne’s busiest rail corridor into public open space.

The project also involves the upgrade of systems to prepare the Cranbourne-Pakenham line for the arrival of High Capacity Metro Trains.

WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff General Manager for Rail, Mike Jenkins, said the project has been recognised by the Premier of Victoria for its innovative design.

‘Central to the design are three sections of modern elevated rail, which will create 225,000 square metres of open space for local communities.

‘This is space for new parks, playgrounds, sporting facilities, car parking and a range of other uses resulting from community feedback.

‘Our team’s vision for the design is innovative and testament to their passion for the project and aspiration to create a more liveable city for future generations.’ said Mr Jenkins.

WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff is joined in the Alliance by Lend Lease, CPB Contractors and Aurecon together with Metro Trains Melbourne and the Level Crossing Removal Authority. Supporting the group will be urban design and landscape architects Cox Architecture and Aspect Studios, as well as property developers, Lendlease Urban Regeneration.
