WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff presents new model for terminal planning

This week at the AustIntermodal conference in Brisbane, WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff Technical Executive Rail Operations and Facilities, Mark Nugter, will discuss innovation in terminal planning.

Mr Nugter, who will co-present with his colleague, Logistics and Supply Chain Consultant, Luke Patterson, will review the merits of using the Port Rail Intermodal Modelling Environment (PRIME) tool in the context of terminal planning.

‘PRIME is a visual planning tool that allows us to support clients and stakeholders by quickly planning and assessing alternative options at a fraction of the cost of using traditional planning methods.

‘It allows us to refine the optioneering and optimisation stages of terminal planning to provide our clients with a real-world assessment incorporating cost and operational data.

‘It has been successfully applied to port, intermodal, multi-modal terminal and rail yard projects in Australia and internationally. We are currently investigating expanding its use to include walk-on/walk-off operations and cruise facilities,’ Mr Nugter concluded.

The AusIntermodal 2016 conference will see industry speakers explore key issues and drivers impacting intermodal freight transportation such as supply-chain efficiency and automation, investment in freight on rail, border security and the development of inland rail.

When: 8 – 9 September 2016.

Where: Pullman, Brisbane, King Georges Square.
