David Harris invited to present at the 4th Contaminated Land Conference

David Harris, Senior Environmental Geologist, WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff Australia, has been invited to present a paper at the Australasian Land & Groundwater Association’s 4th Contaminated Land Conference in Auckland, New Zealand in April.

The paper is titled ‘Regional Petroleum Depot Environmental Due Diligence and Site Assessments in Papua New Guinea: Challenges and Solutions’.

David’s paper focuses on environmental due diligence works that WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff undertook for Puma Energy on 15 petroleum terminals spread across ten regions in PNG. Puma was established as a result of the InterOil acquisition in 2015, and the works were undertaken during the transactional period. The assessments involved a gap analysis on each of the sites including identification of the existing monitoring well network (if present) and completion of baseline groundwater investigations.

The works triggered follow-up baseline environmental site assessments to establish environmental risk profiles across the acquired portfolio. This paper outlines the project, including the various challenges presented by environmental drilling in PNG.

David Harris has 18 years’ experience as a geologist, with 12 years as a consulting environmental geoscientist in Australia and the Pacific. He has a wide range of experience in environmental aspects of the contaminated land, coal seam gas and mining industries, with technical skills in the fields of geochemistry, geology, hydrogeology and contaminated land assessment / remediation.

David is familiar with working in logistically challenging / remote locations having worked in outback Australia, Ghana, Fiji, Solomon Islands and, most recently, PNG.

At WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff we strive to conserve and improve land quality, preserving resources for current and future generations. To find out about our contaminated land management capabilities.
