Finding the perfect mix with Monica Dryden

Monica Dryden, Systems Engineer, Transport, joined WSP in 2011 as a graduate in our Brisbane office working in mechanical services. She has since moved to Melbourne to help build our systems engineering capability.

A secondment opportunity in our London office in 2015, grew Monica’s passion for systems engineering, “The opportunity to work in another country gave me some great experience. I was able to really understand how our capabilities could be used on international projects. Working with the London rail team was an awesome learning experience, and one that I still draw on today.” she says.

Since moving into her new role, Monica says, “To me systems engineering is a point of difference, it is a growing capability in our Australian business and is great to be a part of. I think I’ve found my niche, it’s the right mix between the technical and project management aspects of a project.”

To those who know Monica her love of travel and adventure is no surprise. A 15-month trip around the world from 2014-2015 ticked off almost every continent in the world, spending chunks of time hiking across Africa, Asia, South America, North America and Europe.

“It was an incredible experience, the highlights; climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, trekking to Machu Picchu, visiting Tiger Leaping Gorge in rural China, eating Fish Taco’s in Mexico and exploring the culturally magnificent India” she says. She says her next stop would ideally be a stint in our New York office.

Monica continues to explore new cultures at home and is currently learning French. To Monica, life should not be dictated by a set of goals. Her motto is “do whatever makes you happy and always be open to opportunities.”
