Julie Spencer to Strengthen Stakeholder Engagement in Queensland

As Australian cities continue to grow so does the importance of undertaking robust stakeholder engagement. Understanding local business and community sentiments, as well as cultural heritage, are key to the successful development of vertical and horizontal infrastructure.

WSP has appointed Julie Spencer as a Technical Executive in our Environment business. This new role signifies our on-going commitment to build our Stakeholder Engagement offering. Ms Spencer will add her extensive experience gained from working on complex major projects, for both public and private sector clients to the thriving Brisbane team. Under her leadership, stakeholder engagement, social impact assessment and project communications are combined.

Director of Environment ANZ, Jenny MacMahon said, “Ms Spencer is a valuable addition to the team and her varied experience will help to bolster our Stakeholder Engagement capability. Her understanding of Queensland communities and legislation will enable better project delivery and positive relationship building with key stakeholder groups.”

Ms Spencer said, “Projects across Australia are changing and they grow in complexity every day. Strong stakeholder engagement can lead the charge in meeting project challenges. Apart from good relationship management, stakeholder engagement builds flexibility, innovation and outcomes that bring beneficial changes to both the proponent and communities. The right stakeholder engagement skills make project success a reality.”

With 17 years of experience in various roles, most recently as Stakeholder Engagement Lead on the Cross-River Rail project, and on two of the Queensland Inland Rail projects, Ms Spencer brings experience through the project lifecycle from planning to design and construction. She brings proven understanding and learnings of planning and approvals processes, risk based management, strategic positioning, community engagement and project communication management.
