In Melbourne from 3-6 April, four WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff bridge experts will share best practice, emerging technologies and the latest developments in design at the 10th Austroads Bridge Conference.

WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff Client Director for Transport (Victoria), Tim Gosbell said the experts will present a range of technical papers.

‘Their topics range from how we are using the emerging technology of Digital Engineering to key changes in safety and disaster prevention in bridge design,’ said Mr Gosbell.

Section Executive for Transport Infrastructure (Australia & New Zealand) Clive Baker explained DigitalEngineering has the potential to profoundly change how we design assets.

‘It can streamline the entire infrastructure lifecycle, through design, construction and operation and maintenance of a built asset.

‘In essence, Digital Engineering involves providing a digital model as the design deliverable, rather than just electronic drawings on paper.

‘The benefits include reducing construction cost, accelerating delivery and improving safety and boosting reliability.

‘We can zoom in and rotate designs and look closely at a particular segment of the bridge to improve its design,’ said Mr Baker.

Technical Executive Frank Rapattoni will also present the key changes in railway bridge design safety and new bridge design standards and how they might help to prevent derailed train collisions.

Safely in design provisions help to prevent high loss of life and bridge collapse from a train derailment.

The new provisions are considered to be in line with the world’s most advanced standards.
