Why is Anthony Pemberton, a proactive leader?

At WSP, we are proud of the culture we foster and our people are our greatest strength. Today we talk to Anthony Pemberton, Senior Electrical Engineer, WSP based in our Adelaide office.


Since joining WSP in 2012, Anthony has gained a broad base of experience working across multiple teams and different cities to contribute to some challenging projects. Recruited as a systems, communications and electrical professional, Anthony moved to Brisbane in 2015 to work in our Resources team before moving back to Adelaide to work across our Water and now Building Services teams.

Anthony says, “The diversity of the roles I’ve had to date and the dynamic nature of the work we do is what drew me to WSP. While the Adelaide office is small, the opportunity to lead projects is a great way to take the next step in your career. The trust of the business, the variety of projects, and the ability to work locally with our clients yet draw on our international expertise is what keeps me engaged and inspired. It is also what our clients are drawn to.”

In the five years Anthony has spent with the business, he has derived great satisfaction and pride from his work. One of the highlights is working on a 20-storey mixed use accommodation and office building that assisted people with disabilities.

Anthony says, “The project was extremely complex – we had to think about innovative building system designs for people who are hearing, sight, and mobility impaired as well as those with mental disabilities. As part of our approach, we took the time to understand our client’s pain points and envision the challenges from the user’s perspective. This is a great example of how adaptable WSP is - we work with passion and purpose to help shape valuable solutions for our clients. Put simply, we are a company made up of great people that solve problems for people.”

A credit to Anthony’s leadership skills is his appointment as the head of Pathways, the WSP Young Professional Network. He says, “Being the voice of the next wave of WSP leaders is a great honour. I’m excited to help my peers accelerate their professional development and establish strong networks to further their careers. With great support from our leaders, Pathways is reflective of the WSP culture – this network of young professionals is dynamic, inclusive, proud and aspirational.”
